Join First 5 Sonoma County for a free screening of the documentary film, “It’s Basic”<\/a> on Thursday, October 10, 2024, 5:30 – 9pm <\/strong>at the Glaser Center 547 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The screening will be followed by a brief presentation about Sonoma County\u2019s Pathway to Income Equity (PIE)<\/em> guaranteed income pilot, and a panel discussion. \u201cIt’s Basic\u201d is directed by Emmy award-winning independent film director Marc Levin, with former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs serving as executive producer. This new documentary introduces viewers to participants in several guaranteed income pilot programs launched in the US to test the effects of giving everyday people an extra $500 to $1,000 monthly, with no strings attached. The film explores the power of cash, the importance of dignity, and the ongoing work of providing a raised income floor through the eyes of guaranteed income recipients who have witnessed firsthand the life-altering effects of financial stability.<\/p>\n

Short presentations following the film will provide information about the local pilot, which was collaboratively funded by the County of Sonoma, Cities of Santa Rosa, Healdsburg and Petaluma, Coraz\u00f3n Healdsburg and First 5 Sonoma County and launched in February 2023. First 5 randomly selected 305 families with very young children to receive a guaranteed cash income of $500\/month for 24-months. The local pilot was designed to learn more about the impact of guaranteed income on parental stress, sense of parental competence, child well-being and family economic stability and mobility.<\/p>\n
