Donna is currently the Division Director for the Family, Youth and Children’s Division at Sonoma County Human Services Department and has been designated by Director Struckman to represent the Department on the Commission. Donna has a BA in Sociology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies from Sonoma State University, a Master’s Degree in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She’s been with the Human Services Department since 2005.
As Division Director, Donna oversees the daily operations of our local child welfare system and the operations of an emergency shelter for youth at Valley of the Moon Children’s Center and the community Child Advocacy Center, Redwood Children’s Center. In her career, Donna has had the privilege to participate in, and lead through, several significant reforms and practices shifts in the child welfare system including Continuum of Care Reform (CCR), Safety Organized Practice (SOP), and integration of Child and Family Teams (CFTs).
Donna believes strongly that we all play a role in helping children and families in our community and that the integration of the community into the work of the child welfare system is imperative to achieve the best outcomes for children and families. Personally, as a parent, and professionally, Donna believes strongly that no one really ‘does it on their own.’ We all need support and we all want to feel connection and belonging. Parents and children are better off for having the support of the community and we are all better off for providing that support and being in community with one another.
